The African Studies collections at MSU Libraries represent one of the largest and most unique collections of material from and on Africa in the world. The collection supports the research and teaching of MSU faculty and students, as well as the broader African Studies community. The library collect across a broad range of materials, including books, serials, maps, government documents, audio-visual and archival materials, which are integrated into the Main Libraries’ collections, as well as found in Special Collections, Maps, and the Vincent Voice Library.

Africana materials in the Digital Repository represent digitized collections, mostly from Special Collections, including posters, photographic collections, and archival collections, as well as digitized academic journals from the African e-Journals Project. The goal is to provide open access to our collections to a wider audience globally, particularly those researchers in Africa. Though they represent just a small portion of the larger Africana collections at MSUL, they provide an opportunity to experience collections of visual interest, political importance, and historical significance.
