Alvah says he works as both a teamster and a wood gatherer. He notes that he finally received his pay and will send his mother only five dollars, just in case someone wants to steal the money. If she receives it, he will send more. Alvah says there is a lot of sin in camp life so he wants to devote himself to Christianity once he returns home.
