Writing his friend Orin Baker in an unknown year (definitely before April 12, 1862, because Royce wrote Orin's parents that day to inform them of their son's death). Royce is hearing many rumors about secessionists planning to do something to the unionists in Missouri. He does not fear for his life, but he does for his property and entertains ideas of leaving. Thanks Orin for signing up for the Union army and for serving as a conduit between Royce and his parents in Michigan.
