Davis informs his wife that he is in good health and arrived in Grand Junction the night before the letter is dated. His regiment is planning to be involved in an attack at Holly Springs, though Davis is doubtful that the Confederate forces located near Holly Springs will fight unless they are well fortified and great in number. He suspects that they will evacuate Holly Springs. Even though Grand Junction is a better area for farming than his previous location at Corinth, his regiment has a difficult time obtaining crops from the locals, as the crops seem to vanish when the Union forces march into town.
