Davis anticipates that he will soon be involved in an attack near Holly Springs, where Confederate forces have been erecting fortifications. Davis is healthy and reports on the condition of his friends from home. His regiment has plenty of fresh beef, pork, salt pork, bacon, and sweet potatoes to eat, but no bread.
