Davis describes the weather that he is experiencing in Abbieville as well as the content of some letters that he received from friends. He mentions that a Mr. and Mrs. Baker are discussing paying a sum of money, possibly repayment on a loan, to the Davises. Davis requests that his wife adds up the interest that is owed to them and include that in the sum to be paid to them. He says that he get more letters than anyone in his regiment and is trying to refrain from becoming disenchanted from the war. He requests that his wife send her likeness, and suggests that they name their infant daughter Silva.
