Davis instructs his wife in proper grammar and conversation. He is owed six months' pay but thinks he will receive only four months' pay when it comes. Davis's home county passed an act to pay the wives of army volunteers and give them a monthly stipend for children as well, and Davis tells his wife how she can obtain her stipend.
