Davis writes to Lucinda and informs her that he is in his usual health. He notes that he received the lock of Silvie's hair and writes that he looks forward to seeing if her features resemble that of Lucinda. Davis details that he has received letters from Brother Isaac and Lucinda's niece Clara Wilson. He also notes the excitement surrounding the Veteran Service, writing that most men have reenlisted. The railroad bridge the Corps has been building is nearly complete, and they will be leaving for Huntsville soon. Davis writes that Rebels are still deserting their army and coming across the Tennessee River to take the Oath under the President's grant of pardon. Davis also writes that there is a rumor that men who do not enlist in Veteran Services will not be paid until next pay day.
