Davis writes to Lucinda that he is currently on the steamboat Nightingale near Troy, Indiana. He details that they are heading up the Ohio River toward Cincinnati and their plan is to reach Pittsburgh, then take the railroad to New York, and then ride steamboats to Savannah. Davis notes that he has not received a letter from Lucinda since he was in Milwaukee, and he suspects he has been directing them to the wrong address. Davis writes that all the boys have returned to the Regiment except for Merrick Rogers and Nat Shepard who were left sick at Loudon, Tennessee. He concludes by asking Lucinda to write and requesting she tell him how she would feel about living in Michigan.
