Davis writes to Lucinda informing her that his health is good. He details that they are still encamped near Washington, and proceeds to describe his exploration of the city. Davis notes that yesterday was the day of fasting and Prayer in honor of President Lincoln. He continues by detailing that Lucinda must not look for him too soon, although he notes that they will leave tomorrow for Louisville, Kentucky where they will stay in a camp until mustered out. Davis writes that he is anxious to return home but they must be patient, he further notes that he looks forward to living a simple life as a married couple. Davis details that all the men in the Regiment whose time expires before October 1st were mustered out, although they have not been paid and are unable to leave due to lack of transportation.
