Davis updates his wife on the weather that he is experiencing as well as the health of several friends from home. Illness is more prevalent in his regiment than it was during his last letter, and he is glad to hear about the strong civilian support that the Union Army is receiving. His regiment has been involved in small skirmishes with Confederate cavalry and have captured stragglers from the Confederate army. Davis says that some in his regiment anticipate a large force of Confederates will gather to attempt to retake Corinth, but he speculates that this will not happen any time soon.
