Theodore Doud describes his experiences aboard the steamboat, The Illinois, then goes on to tell about the frequency of guards shooting unauthorized personnel at night. In one instance, Doud tells about a male spy dressed as a woman who was shot because he refused to halt at the picket line. He also mentions the recent capture of 55 Confederate privates and one captain at Sandy Creek, Missouri. He closes by promising to send pictures.
