George Daggett expresses a desire to go sleigh riding, though he believes it will be a long time before he will be able to enjoy that activity. He mentions that he is almost 10 pounds heavier since joining the military and he expresses pride in his cloth tent, fire pit, and bed. He discusses family and friends from his hometown of China, New York, who have enlisted in the army. George also notes that it is his eighteenth birthday.
