James updates Emma on the happenings in camp and expresses his worries about her recent illness. When discussing items he received in the mail, he notes that he wishes someone would send butter because it makes crackers more palatable. In the concluding portion of his letter, James notes that he agrees with Emma's decision not to "go with Albert" and encourages her to talk with his sister Emma J. (Emma Jane, also noted as E.J., James' biological sister) or Clark (James' biological brother).
