Parkhurst updates his sisters on his growing responsibilities as Provost Marshal. He also recollects his youthful crush on "Josephine" (likely Josephine B. Reeves, who would soon become his second wife) and his enduring love for her. For the remainder of the letter, Parkhurst mostly discusses various topics concerning his daughters (Kittie and Maggie) such as playmates, education, and his plans to visit them.
