An unknown soldier writes to his brother and sister, detailing that they have experienced harsh weather and lots of rain. He notes that the regiment only has one commission officer, and there is discussion of the appointment of more officers. The soldier also writes that James L. was promoted to sergeant, and that one man was discharged from camp.
