Benjamin mentions that his regiment was forced to live mostly off of corn rations for a period of time but it was humorous to watch the soldiers try to prepare their meals. He tells his mother that he is upset to hear that his sister Sarah was acting unladylike and flirting inappropriately, though the circumstances of the situation are unclear. Benjamin then explains to his mother that he burns her letters because he has no room to carry them, not because they are poorly written.
