Nancy worries that Gershom was killed in a recent battle, but she proceeds to update him on family news anyway, hoping he is still alive. She writes that George received most of his pay, though she was worried he would never get it. Nancy also notes that Carrie and Mary have been enjoying "spelling schools and exhibitions." Nancy closes by describing the freezing rain they experienced and by mentioning the death of a family friend.
