Nancy apologizes to Gershom, who seems to have expressed frustration over not hearing from his family in awhile. Nancy notes that St. John's is in a period of "general mourning" for the death of President Abraham Lincoln, but that some Copperheads said they were "glad that Lincoln is dead."
