This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel apologizes to his wife for not saying goodbye before he left to join the army, because he is sure now he will not get a furlough before marching South. He expects the war to be over in a year. Dunckel describes meeting many of his friends while in camp. He also talks about business to take care of at home, and how he plans to send money home soon.
