This is a letter from O.G. Dunckel, a Union soldier, to his wife Elizabeth and their children. Dunckel reports that he is at the front and is guarding a large railroad bridge on the Tennessee River. He tells his wife not to mourn his leaving for battle because it was his duty. He believes the war will end soon, but still wishes his wife to send him letters every week. Dunckel also describes camp life.
