Simeon A. Howe Letter : August 16, 1864

Simeon gives Cindonia advice as to how she can better control her horse, Doll. He also denounces many of the soldiers for being illiterate and for spreading gossip. He states that the African Americans he sees are proud because of the way they act and dress, whereas the poor whites have no such dignity. Additionally, Simeon mentions that there is a chance he could receive a thirty day furlough to visit home.
