A letter from W. W. Olds describing his journey to the front. In it, he describes the fear that the war will leave the country in ruins, and expresses a belief that all men who can should serve to bring a faster end to it. He discusses his hope to be appointed chaplain, and his sadness at seeing family members weep when saying goodbye.
