John Loomis is contacting Amos' father to inform him that Amos' smallpox have put him in critical condition, but Loomis appears optimistic about his chances of survival. Loomis advises B.H. Thomas to visit his son as soon as possible just in case his condition worsens. He notes that should Amos die, it's unlikely his body could be returned home because they want to contain the disease as much as possible.
