Fred mainly describes his unit's travel from Cairo, IL, to Memphis, TN. He notes sleeping in very cold and uncomfortable conditions. He says they were waiting in Memphis to be picked up and taken elsewhere. He notes seeing a group of Black soldiers sitting together on the bank of the river.
