This is a letter from Webster Teachout, a Union soldier, to his father. Teachout reports that some of his friends from home who are also soldiers have gone missing. They might be taken prisoner or killed. Someone stole Teachout's horse, so he stole one from the enemies. He thanked his father for sending him money and hopes the company will settle in winter quarters soon.
