Cultural variations in socializing young children's mastery motivation : a comparison between European-, African-, and Hispanic-American families
The two studies in this dissertation aim to investigate the family process of socializing child mastery motivation, which is an individual's innate drive to master and influence the environment. Study one focuses on the cultural variances in the direct influence of parenting on children's mastery behaviors. Study two investigates the family process of socializing mastery motivation socialization, including both micro-level factors, such as parenting, and macro-level factors, such as socioeconomic backgrounds.
