Catalytic asymmetric desymmetrisation and kinetic resolution of unsaturated amides via halofunctionalization
My doctorate research work with professor Borhan is mainly focused on developing new asymmetric halofunctionalization reactions. Chapter 1 describes the catalytic asymmetric desymmetrisation of dienes via chlorocyclization. Chapter 2 describes the kinetic resolution of propargyl amides via chlorocyclization. Both desymmetrisation and kinetic resolution using cinchona alkaloid (DHQD) 2PHAL as catalyst afford good diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity. Chapter 3 discloses efforts to develop asymmetric ipso-halocyclization via dearomatization of phenol derivatives. Chapter 4 describes a novel and practical method to access N,O-acetals using commercially available XtalFluor-E® as catalyst.
