Generalization of portable activity schedules to the inclusive setting for children with autism
"This study evaluates portable activity schedules as a way to generalize independent play skills from locations in the instructional setting to locations within the community-based inclusive classroom for preschoolers with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Independent play skills and schedule-following behaviors on a portable activity schedule were taught to participants using back-step error correction. All three participants engaged in high rates of problem behavior (e.g., motor and vocal stereotypy, self-injurious behavior and physical noncompliance), but acquired the prerequisite skills to participate in the study. The results of the study indicate that portable activity schedules do not promote generalization to locations within the community-based inclusive classroom when taught in the instructional setting for the 2 of the 3 participants whom acquired independent play skills using a portable activity schedule."--Page ii.
